BULLYING IN THE BUD
Effective strategies neutralize
the sniper, the steamroller,
the time bomb and the micromanager
Bullies aren’t just in
the schoolyard; they grow up
and cause trouble in the working
world too. As a new Statistics
Canada report has shown, nearly
one in five violent incidents
in Canada in 2004 took place
in the victim’s workplace.
While the Stats Canada report
focused on incidents of physical
assault, these types of violent
outbursts often have roots in
more subtle “bullying”
behaviour that causes workplace
stress, low morale and low productivity.
Jackey Backman works with companies
across North America, teaching
employees how to deal with the

for once and for all. She delivers
strategies for neutralizing

Neutralizing “Bad Apples”
is one aspect of Backman’s
